10 Things You Might Not Know About Me

Updated: Apr 19, 2021

Happy Monday! Can you believe its September already?! I can't believe how quickly this year has flown. I hope everyone had a great weekend! My weekend was pretty chill; I got a chance to do some much-needed cleaning and catch up on reading. I also enjoyed taking time off from the blog last week; with all that is going on in the world, I needed some extra self-care. For Labor Day weekend, we had a great time exploring the Hudson Valley and relaxing in nature. More details on that are coming soon!

This week, I thought it would be a great idea to share a few things you might not know about me. In the last couple of weeks, I've received new subscribers and readers and thought this would be a good time for you to get to know more about the woman behind the blog.

  1. I was born in Northridge, CA, a neighborhood located in the San Fernando Valley. My family moved around a lot; I attended most elementary, middle school, and high school in Fresno, located in central California. I eventually made my way back to southern California for college and graduated with a B.A. in Communication Studies from California State University, Northridge.

  2. I'm the eldest of 8 kids! My parents divorced when I was young, and both remarried, so between the two, there are 8. I still have a hard time keeping up with everyone's ages.

  3. I'm a movie fanatic and love all genres, but my favs are documentaries, sci-fi, thrillers, horror, and romantic comedy. I can't get enough of scary movies! I don't know many other women into scary movies like me, so if that's you---hey, girl, hey! I've always had a fascination with ghosts and the supernatural. I love the movie Poltergeist!

  4. I'm a dancer! I grew up taking ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop classes. I was also a cheerleader for a year in high school. I think I get my love of dance from my mother; she studied dance in college.

  5. Two of my aunts are Olympic gold and silver medalist in track & field. You can read more about them here and here. I ran a little track & field in high school, but unfortunately, I did not inherit the "superfast" gene.

  6. I love Mexican cuisine! I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. No state does it better than California when it comes to Mexican food, except for maybe Texas. Chips and guac, anyone?

  7. I come from a musical family. My father plays piano, one of my brothers is a classical composer, my uncle plays bass, and another uncle plays trombone. A couple of my cousins also sing and play instruments. Family gatherings are always fun and entertaining!

  8. I sing! I was in three choirs during the last two years of high school; women's choir, mixed choir, and a jazz ensemble.

  9. I worked as an actress and producer for the "Through Our Eyes" & "The 411" shows, which aired nationally on PBS, The Urban American Network, and the Black Family Channel.

  10. I love musicals! Some of my favorite musicals include The Sound of Music, Westside Story, Chicago, Annie, South Pacific, RENT, and Wicked. I'm also a fan of Bollywood films; one of my favorites is Devdas.

Well, that about sums it up for now. I'll probably end up doing a part two for this post soon. I'd love to get to know YOU more! Feel free to drop something about yourself in the comments.
